Little Ashes Review

I am no less than delighted to say that I attended the Little Ashes Irish Premiere in Belfast. To me, my Little Ashes ticket was like Charlie's Golden Ticket to Willy Wonka's factory. I honestly was bursting at the seams with excitement!
The Film Festival organisers introduced Paul Morrison (Director), Javier Beltram (Lorca) and Marina Gatell (Magdelena) to present the movie. Paul Morrison was very grateful for all the support Little Ashes was receiving already and hopeful that it's audience would feel 'the something special' that the cast and crew felt they were creating while filming.

Little Ashes focuses on, what is essentially, the love story between Salvador Dali and Fredrico Garcia Lorca. Their friendship begins with a mutual passion of the arts and it develops in to a strong but suffering love affair.

Throughout the movie, Dali transforms from a loveable eccentric artist with big ideas to a fame hungry and overtly anomalous character. By the end of the movie, Dali has become surrealism personified. Rob not only portrays this entirely but also does it in a way that we empathize with Dali and his agonized love for Lorca. He also had the audience in fits of laughter with his quirky expressions, outspokenness and bizarre 'Dali dance' (I’m sure you have all seen the clip!)
This movie proves that Rob is no one trick pony that we're all worried Twilight will make him be seen as. The evidence is in his talent to embody a man that was so ludicrously perplex and detached from reality and play it to near perfection.

When the end credits came up I was already sobbing. It felt like I had a 10tonne weight on my chest. It's a heart breaking story and I became completely absorbed in it. The last 10minutes of the movie were so affecting. I know that I wont be able to shake it off for days and that is a tribute to all the actors involved especially Rob.
One tiny little iffy point on Rob though was that he had to speak in English with a Spanish accent.. And I think sometimes he got a little confused trying to do it :/

The evening was finished off with a Q&A with director and cast. Unfortunately one girl who had obviously come to see the movie for the Robness, was not paying any attention to anything else and asked a very embarrassing question that even made Paul Morrison look quizzical! My advice would be, if you go to see it for Rob be willing to get involved in the entire movie. It’s worth it I promise you!

Side Note: Javier Beltram was fantastic. I have no doubt we will be seeing more of him in the future.
It will be on general release in Ireland in May. I hope you ALL get a chance to see it soon :D xxx

I do enjoy a bit of scruff..

I have been sleeping restlessly. I toss and turn in my sleep. Everynight I wake up to the sound of my own voice screaming the same word over and over. That one word that used to make me light with happiness is now just drenched in sadness. Badger.
Okay so that doesnt actually happen but hey, I like to dramatize ;)

Mainly the issue at hand is that because Rob is now donning the pressed powder and pea coat again as the delicious Edward, he has been reintroduced to his razor and done away with his scruff.

But alas, until Rob's magnificent jaw line is covered in stubble again, there are others to help us out in this time of need:

Ryan Reynolds

Ryan Gosling

Jared Leto

Hugh Jackman

Christian Bale

Ben Barnes (for Elfie and JuJu! ;))

Eric Bana

Gerard Bulter

And of course, there's always this to comfort us too ;)

The mission continues...

So the week I finally got round to watching both Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

I never thought I'd say it but, Me likey! ha! The 3rd and 4th installments in the series are by far better than for 1st and 2nd. They're getting darker. There's more substance in them.
I loved the dark element of the Dementors in HP3. Well being honest, they scared me a little! They are blind so Dementors sense and feed on the positive emotions, happiness and good memories of human beings to move around, forcing them to relive their worst memories. Eugh, I shudder.

And of course it goes without saying, Cedric Diggory in The Goblet of Fire stole the show. A nice bit of bromance developed between Harry and Cedric, that was cute. I dont blame Harry. I mean, even though he was young and rosey cheeked and wearing that black/yellow concoction, he was still attractive!
DAMN YOU VOLDEMORT!!

On a side note: How feckin irritating is that Hermione! Jeeeeeez! And for the love of pumpkin juice Ron, ask her out!!

Something small made my day..

Very random but it made me happy so I will share..!

I ordered the book Money by Martin Amis online with SecondHand-BookShop.co.uk I love second hand books! I dont know why. Maybe because I like it if the book has a history. The book has lived with someone else before.. read on the bus, carried in a handbag or maybe gathered dust on a shelf before the owner decided to pass it on.. hmmm.. I dont know, I just prefer used books to new ones.
Anyway, in the envelope along with the book was a note from the seller;

'Please find enclosed the book you ordered which I trust meets with your approval and that you enjoy your book - I would normally enclose a book mark with my compliments, however a certain idiot put an empty box back on the shelf...and, of course, I have now run out.'

I loved this! How casual! And because of the lack of book marks, I was kindly given a blank postcard with a picture of Le Chalet Hotel in Guernsey on it! Ha!

The mission continues...

So last Friday night I went to Adrienne's house with a bottle of wine! (always a good start!) She has past on the Twilight books to a friend who was also coming around to join us and have some Twilight discussion over a few glasses of wine. To be honest, thats my favourite kind of evening these days!
So after some Twilight discussion and Edward swooning we turned our attention (reluctantly) to Harry Potter. We were being pretty shit with our Potter-thon so figured we would watch The Chamber of Secrets..

What did I think? I liked it. I wasnt completely enthrawled but I got a few laughs out of it! 2 things stood out the most. 1 - Dobby refering to himself in the 3rd person all the time grated on my nerves and 2 - Harry and Ron's balls dropped between shooting the first two movies!
Im looking forward to the 3rd and 4th movies!

Even poor Rob doesnt know where the badger is gone :(

This weeks mission!

I was never really one for getting caught up in hype about new books or movies. Of course, with the recent exception of Twilight. I had heard about Twilight, but had no idea the exposure it actually had until after I read it and went to see the movie. I can say, hand on heart, that all of the hype surronding Twilight is justified in both the book series and the movie. (with the exception of some crazies of course!)
But anyway, I have never read any of Dan Brown's books (The DaVinci Code, Angels and Demons..) Nor did I go see the movie. I never had an interest in the Lord of the Rings book series or movie trilogy either. And I hadn't been curious enough to pick up a Harry Potter book, or see any of the movies either... until now!

I dont think I would have ever read Twilight if it hadnt have been given to me as a birthday present. I would have read the syonpsis 'Girl falls in love with Vampire' and put it right back down again. And I LOVED Twilight. I am a confessed Twilighter, a complete Twi-holic, a Twi-hard even! So I started thinking, what if I do love Harry Potter but Im just not giving it a chance because its about a boy wizard.

So last night myself and my friend Adrienne (a fellow Twilighter) started our Harry Potter-thon! We were hoping for a night of back to back Potter movies but that didnt work out so we just watched Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone. We will hopfully watch one movie each night next week.
So what did I think? I enjoyed it actually! I knew by watching the movie that the book would be full of wonderful and crazy descriptions.

I wont compare the Twilgiht move to the first Harry Potter movie. There's no point. In my eyes, Twilight has no contest with many movies, including Harry Potter.

Next movie: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

One of your 5 a day?

There were many things I was teased about when I was a child. I was a pale, freckly, tubby, ginger child. As you can imagine, I was given many very unimaginative nicknames based on my apperance. But one redeeming factor was that my name is Hannah. Thankfully, the one nickname that has lasted the distance in to adulthood is Hannah Banana. And I quite like it!

I'm one of those people that get overexcited by seeing something with their name on it. If I see a rack of mugs or keyrings in a gift shop, I will always look for my name. I dont know why.. Oddly enough, I have never bought a 'Hannah' mug or keyring.

I think there is a lot in a name. It is one thing that belongs to you and will identify you in a world you are not even familiar with yet. I enjoy listening to peoples stories on how or why they named their children as they did. I like the thought that the new little person already has an abundance of history behind their name.

I was named after a song by Mary Black called 'Loving Hannah'.
My Dad was in a band before I was born and this was a song they used to play. Its an Irish Folk song. Every so often, maybe on my birthday or at Christmas, my Mom would indulge me in my 'name narcissism' and sing it (beautifully) for me.
Maybe, before I was even born, its lyrics formed my love/hate relationship with tragic and consuming love stories?

Here are the lyrics...

I went to church on Sunday
My love, she passed me by
I knew her mind was changing
By the roving of her eye
By the roving of her eye
By the roving of her eye
I knew her mind was changing
By the roving of her eye

My love's fair and proper
Her waist is neat and small
She is quite good-looking
And that' s the best of all
And that' s the best of all
And that' s the best of all
And she is quite good-looking
And that' s the best of all

Oh, Hannah, loving Hannah
Come give to me your hand
You said that if you're married
That I will be the one
That I will be the one
That I will be the one
You said that if you're married
That I will be the one

I will go down by the river
When everyone's asleep
I'll think of loving Hannah
And then sit down and grieve
And then sit down and grieve
And then sit down and grieve
I'll think of loving Hannah
And then sit down and grieve

I went to church on Sunday
My love she passed me by
I knew her mind was changing
By the roving of her eye
By the roving of her eye
By the roving of her eye
I knew her mind was changing
By the roving of her eye
