And now for something completely different...

This post is a little different to the usual badger drooling but I've been meaning to put this up for a while now.

When I was travelling around Europe last year I visited the Leopold Museum in Vienna. It was full of fab paintings and sculptures but one painting stood out from all the others for me.
Gustav Klimt's 'Death and Life'.
I had been vaguely familiar with Klimt from Art class in school. I stood on front of that painting for ages, looking at the detail and the expressions he had painted. It was amazing.

Since then I've had a great interest in the work of Klimt and love other paintings of his like 'Love', 'Tragedy' and probably the most widely known 'The Kiss'

  2. Klimt was a great artist - I would love to see some of his work up close I have a feeling he might have been included in the Love exhibition that was being shown in Manchester that I kept meaning to go to.
Did you ever see Rolf Harris's art show where he studies the styles of different artists? - I know he did Klimt and Dali but I can't actually remember the final paintings :(. I like Rolf because he's prepared to study and try it for himself and not just reading things into the paintings subject matter.
There is a artist that has taken the style of Klimt - to be honest ripped it off and made figurines inspired by the kiss - maybe you have seen it?

  3. Ah good ole Rolf Harris! I'll have to look up his studies, it sounds great. He is a little darlin isnt he! With his wobble board :)
I've seen loads of wood carvings and ornaments of The Kiss. Was there an artist who replicated the work as his own? Cheeky bugger.

  4. Well there was no mention of Gustav in the promo of the figurine - maybe the artist did but Im still thinking rip off - they had muted the colours a little a changed the pose just a smidgen.
Aww yeah I'd love Rolf to do one of the big art challenges again i want him to come to Newcastle!
On Jonathan Ross Saturday he mentioned R Harris and got Hugh Playing a didgeridoo he was actually quite good! - Jonathan played it but had the sound effect of one of the Clangers ha!

It's just reminded me I read recently that some of his work was distroyed by the Germans at the end of the second world war :(
